Our mother always said her epitaph should be “She did the best she could”
And for her that meant in every aspect of her life. She was the Best secretary she could be at RCA for all those years. She was the best Daughter, Sister, Aunt and Mother, Grandmother and Friend she could be.
Every person in this room has a story of something that Mom taught you or did for you, or helped you with. That was just her! She was a fixer for lack of a better term. She love to help and to give. It was part of her light that shined so brightly.
She was a tough cookie and she would get the belt off the top of the fridge if she needed to. She made sure we all knew right from wrong. When there are 5 heathens running a muck, you have to know how to defend your sanity!
She was just as quick with an at a boy, or good job. There was always a cookie or some kind of treat when you did something well. It was a pretty fair system and your punishments or rewards were in your own hands!
She taught us to be humble, and thankful. She was always looking to the bright side, even when there did not seem to be one. And even in the darkest times of my life, she was there to rekindle that light within me with just a tiny spark of her love.
She was a lioness when it came to her children, especially Larry. He needed her the most and that was OK. She made time for all of us, and made sure things did not fall through the cracks. Homework, School, Softball, Baseball, Football, all of it! And she never missed a stride.
Her heart of gold was always on display, don’t get it wrong she had a nasty Scorpio side as well. Vengeance is mine sayith the Lord and also Liz! I was on the wrong end of that a few times in my life. I was certain I would meet my maker before the rage blew over, but she would calm down as quickly as the storm brewed up!
Mom gave everything for her family, Her time, money and worldly goods! She never needed “things or stuff” to be happy, just to see her kids happy and well was always enough. Well that and a good book. She did love to read!
Elizabeth Hansel McNamee was an amazing soul, who loved fiercely and was generous to a fault. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She loved to make hats and blankets for the babies in the Heart Hospital in Nevada. She made hats and scarves for the Giving Tree at my niece’s school as well.
I knew this day would come, but I am still not prepared. My Family and friends, Love all the people you have in your life as well as you can. Because someday God will need them back.
I want to thank you all for coming to pay your respects to someone I loved and looked up to. God bless you Mom you will be missed. Be at rest now faithful servant! “You did the best she could”
Some final words that remind me of her….. Julie
"Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."
-John Wesley
