Obituary of Clairemary McDermott
Clairemary McDermott left us for a better place on November 14, 2020. The daughter of Jack and Claire (née Norelli) McDermott was one of seven dearly loved children. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Jimmy, John and Joseph, sister-in-law Eileen and brother-in-law Joseph Mooney. She is survived by her sister Suzanne Mooney, brothers Louis (Barbara), Patrick (Judy) and sister-in-law Margie and a multitude of nieces, nephews, treasured cousins, Uncle Mike (Barbara) Norelli and more Godchildren than anyone we know. In every branch of her family tree and among her friends, so many people looked at Claire and thought “that’s the one” when they thought of who best to guide their children and be a lasting example of faith.
Faith and family were everything to Claire. In June of 1975 Clairemary made her commitment as a Lay Salvatorian. Over the next 45 years she lived her life serving her family and community by working actively in this ministry. She taught countless children both as a classroom teacher and a religious education instructor, all of which will never forget Miss McDermott.
Over many years Claire honored those in our family who had gone before by making and delivering wreaths along with a prayer to their places of eternal rest. This thoughtful expression meant the world to those who missed their loved ones. This speaks to the abundance of love she held in her heart and the wonderful example of Christ living within Claire.
Claire was a world traveler, she loved watching sports especially the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. And no Christmas would be complete without her delicious Christmas cookies. Claire spent several years delivering meals for Meals on Wheels. In recent years she loved her time as a member of the Bensalem Senior Citizens association. Claire was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend. We were blessed to have her in our lives and are comforted to know she is resting with the Lord.
