Obituary of Allen Keith Taylor
Allen Keith Taylor, of Sewell, NJ, passed on Thursday, November 14, 2019. He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Erick; daughter-in-law, Justine; grandchildren, Sarah Taylor, Trevor Taylor, Aaron Taylor and Allen G. Taylor; sisters, Mary Ellen Garris, Claire Falls, and Carole Milner; predeceased by son, Allen Keith Taylor Jr; sister, Joan Matheson; brothers, Charles Taylor and William Taylor; and parents Clarence (Ty) Taylor and Mary Taylor (McGeady).
His passion was always teaching. Nothing brought Allen more joy than being in the classroom with students. He taught physics and chemistry at Sterling High School in Somerdale, NJ; was an administrator (Assistant High School Principal and Assistant Superintendent) at Buena School District in Buena, NJ; served in administration as a District Math Coordinator and returned to teaching math in the Washington Township School District.
A life-long learner, Allen earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Trenton State Teachers College. He earned his Master’s Degree studying at Temple University. During his career, Allen received four National Science Foundation Grants with which he studied at Princeton University, Purdue University, University of Rochester and Temple University. Allen also studied at the U.S Naval Academy in Annapolis.
Allen was a very successful soccer coach, pioneering a lot of the infancy of soccer in southern New Jersey. He coached at Sterling High School and various select teams throughout southern New Jersey. He was inducted into the South Jersey and New Jersey State Soccer Coaches Halls of Fame.
Music played a big part throughout Allen's life. He sang in the Jubilate Deo Chorale and Orchestra and performed with the group at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fischer Hall in New York and Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. He also sang in the Delaware Valley Chorale and the Camden Diocesan Choir, as well as choirs at St. Lawrence Church and Our Lady of Lourdes.
Allen was a long-time member of Rotary International, serving as a District Governor of then-District #7640. He served in various capacities throughout his volunteering. He also loved studying the Bible and sailing.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Wednesday evening from 6:00PM to 8:00PM and Thursday morning from 9:00AM to 10:00AM at DANKS-HINSKI FUNERAL HOME, 125 N.
