Christians are commanded to love God and their neighbor. In doing so they are expected to leave this world a better place. Al Taylor fulfilled those commands. He did so as a loyal, husband and father. He did so as an educator, coach and administrator who influenced thousands of young people. He did so as a good friend and a person active in helpful organizations.
I only knew Al for his last 5 years at Sterling High School. He recommended me for hire, despite the fact that I was recent college graduate with no teaching experience. Al convinced his superiors that he could mentor any rookie, and he did. I in turn had a 41 year career in public education influencing over 4000 students. A north Jersey native, I've had a very good family life in South Jersey. All of that happened in part because Al was willing to give a young person a chance and guide him through the early rough spots. Al was a lovable, memorable character. My wife who was a student in his physics class remembers the joy with which he approached every day. He would even sing in his classroom during lab experiments.
Although I lost track of Al once he left Sterling, I was not surprised to read what a full, productive life he lived. Our human bodies eventually fail us. Our good spirit and love live forever in those we touch. Al touched my life and I will be eternally grateful. I am confident that the words "well done good and faithful servant" greeted him in Heaven. Al left this world a better place.

Heartfelt condolences to Mary, Erick and family. I'm just one of thousands of Sterling H.S. grads who was fortunate to cross the threshold of Mr. Taylor's classroom. As a teenager I was also welcomed into his home and have such fond memories of Mr. Taylor and his family, especially during the holidays. A very wise physics teacher once taught me this quote of Isaac Newton... “He who thinks half-heartedly will not believe in God, but he who really thinks has to believe in God.”
God Speed, "Uncle Al."

I am so sorry to hear of Allen’s passing. His passion for music and singing was a mere reflection of his passion for life....always teaching...always coaching...always serving. While some might think of him as a musician, I think he was more an instrument. An instrument the Lord used to make our world brighter. Eternal rest grant unto thee, and let perpetual light shine upon him forever. Please be assured of my prayer in a special way. Msgr. Louis Marucci

An epic Teddy Bear toss (... and Mary's Zamboni ride).
1st law of thermodynamics: No energy gets created in the universe, and none is destroyed... it only changes forms. Al's kind soul lives on in our hearts and minds.
