Obituary of Carmen E. Christinzio
Carmen E. “Ziggy” Christinzio on November 29, 2018 of Stratford, age 102.
Carmen was born in on July 5, 1916 in Philadelphia, and moved to Atco NJ with his family in 1918, and was raised on a farm that is now the site of Almalthea Cellars Winery. He is predeceased by his Parents the Late Joseph and Angelina (nee Biello) Christinzio and by Siblings the Late Catherine Cipolla, and The Late Michael Christinzio.
Carmen was a Devoted Husband to his Beloved wife, the Late Mary (nee Tancardi) Christinzio.
Carmen is survived by his devoted son Joseph (Rosemary) of Chesilhurst, NJ, and also survived by three cherished grandchildren, Angela Simpers (Russell), Lisa Shrader (William), Joseph Jr. and also by six Precious Great-grandchildren, Bradley and Nicole Simpers, and Dominic, Vincent, Autumn, and Aiden Shrader. Carmen is also survived by his Sister Frances DiLodovico.
Carmen served honorably in the 16th and 19th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadrons Headquarters and Service Group in WWII as an Armorer in charge of weapons. He entered combat in Irsch, Germany in relief of the 43rd Cavalry and fought alongside Gen Patton’s 3rd Army were they captured 45 towns and villages and 1500 German POWs in one (2) week period. Thereafter until VE day, his missions were to locate and destroy enemy weapons and provide mobile security for Occupational Forces .
Carmen returned home, got married, and started a family. He was Co-Owner of C&M CITGO in Atco, NJ with his brother until his retirement. In his yonger days, he enjoyed flying airplanes and hunting and fishing with his dog “Laddie”, and after retirement he did saw sharpening and built bird houses as a hobby.
Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing from 9AM – 11AM on Tuesday December 4, 2018 at Danks Hinski Funeral Home at 125 N. White Horse Pike, Lindenwold NJ 08021. A Service will immediately follow at 11AM, also at the funeral home. Interment at 11:45AM at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 300 W. White Horse Pike, Berlin NJ 08009. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Carmen’s name to Samaritan Hospice in Voorhees at 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300 Marlton, NJ 08053
