Obituary of Mary E. Hopkins
Mary E. Hopkins, 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Stratford on April 23 surrounded by her children. Mary was born on Feb. 15, 1926, in Philadelphia, to her loving parents, John and Mary Maguire; she was the youngest of six children. As a young woman tending to her ill mother, Mary began what would become her lifelong vocation: taking care of others, a trait she would carry on until the last days of her life. In 1950, Mary married her beloved husband, John, who predeceased her in 2011. Together, they unselfishly dedicated their entire lives to creating a loving and supportive home and family. Mary’s selfless devotion to her family and her unwavering faith in God was the source of her greatest joy and an inspiration to all those who knew her. Nothing brought Mary more happiness then spending time with her seven children, 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She didn’t value or want for material things but showed us all that life’s greatest pleasures are found in the companionship of family and friends. She is survived by her children Pat and Ed McCarthy, John and Valerie Hopkins, Mary and Don Jacobs, Mike and Nancy Hopkins, Denise Hopkins, Mark and Patty Hopkins, and her precious daughter, Karen Hopkins.
