Obituary of Sally P. Mihm

Please share a memory of Sally to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Sally P. Mihm Sally P. Mihm (née McGill), 74 years, of Deptford NJ, passed away on July 4, 2023. Daughter of the late Ignatius and Rosellen (née Short) McGill. Beloved wife of Thomas Mihm. Loving mother of Thomas Mihm, Jr. (Karen) and the late Maureen Mihm. Dear sister of Ig McGill (Michelle) and Kate Gaskill (Ken). Cherished grandmother of Tom (Stephanie), Andy and Elizabeth. Also survived by her nephew, Spencer, and scores of cousins, from the Sharkey, Short, and Avellino families.

Sally was a proud graduate of St. Bridget in Glassboro in 1962, then she moved on to her beloved Gloucester Catholic High School (Class of 1966) where in freshman religion she met the man who would become her husband of almost Fifty-four years.  After they were married, they moved to Lindenwold and started a family. Sally was active in the Lindenwold Baseball Athletic Association for years. She was also a regular volunteer at St. Lawrence School where she participated in many organizations including years as the girls’ varsity basketball coach. Sally enjoyed skiing, arts & crafts, especially working with ceramics. She had a lifelong love for all animals including cats, ducks, and geese that she had running around the yard, but her favorite were dogs. This was what she referred to as her Dr. Doolittle phase.

Sally was also a lover of all things Irish. She was proud of her Irish heritage where she loved the music, the history, its culture, and a passionate supporter of Irish Republicanism and of course St. Patrick’s Day.  She visited Ireland several times in her life spending most of her time in Camlough, outside of Newry in County Armagh. For many years, the family was involved in the North-South Irish American club which was a Social Club but had a mission to bring Children from the North of Ireland to America for a summer to live, play, laugh, and enjoy peace. Through an organization known as Project Children, the Mihm Family sponsored over two dozen children from the early 1980s until the mid-1990s, most of whom the family is still in contact with today.

Sally and Tom had a great love for family and friends. Their home was known for large parties and gatherings where people would stay for days. Sally strongly believed in helping those in need, and their door was always open to anyone who needed a safe place, a hot meal, or a bed to sleep.
