Obituary of Alice L Greenlee

Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Alice L. Greenlee, affectionately called “Aunt Allie” was the beloved daughter of James Frederick Chandler and Rebecca Jane Ray.  Alice was born on April 11, 1925 and passed away on Tuesday morning, November 17, 2020. She was 95 years old.

Alice was born and raised in her family home, in Magnolia, NJ, where she attended grammar school and later Haddon Heights High School.  Alice worked at a factory in Camden, until she married and returned to Magnolia to build a home on her family property.  There, she raised her three daughters.

In August of 1969, she started studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses, and was baptized shortly thereafter in May of 1970.  She was a beloved member of the Barrington, now Haddonfield Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  “Sister Greenlee” was known for her friendly personality and loving disposition towards not only her spiritual brothers and sisters, but to visitors of the Kingdom Hall as well.  She was a dedicated publisher in the door-to-door ministry for over 50 years and spent the last 16 years of her life as a regular pioneer.  An inspiration to many, she spent countless hours, even while in her 90s, going house-to-house to spread the good news of God’s Kingdom.  It was always first in her life. Alice was known for always being at the meetings, when she had to return to work in 1981, she would get dressed at work and go straight to her meetings whether she was late or not, she was there!

To her family, Alice was known for her invaluable wisdom and endless love, as well as her fiery wit.  She was a lover of animals, plants, cooking shows, and was a well-known hat aficionado.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Elmer Chandler and sister, Rebecca McFerson and survived by children Joyce Greenlee, Lisa Strickland (Herman), and Tracy Jones (John); her nephew Fredrick Chandler (Stacy), nieces Linda Chandler and Alice Norman (James); grandson John Jones Jr., granddaughter Lauren Moken (Scott), great-granddaughter Rebecca Moken; cousin Elizabeth Rollins; along with a host of additional nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service via Zoom video conference will be hosted by the Haddonfield Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Arrangements under the direction of the DANKS-HINSKI FUNERAL HOME, LINDENWOLD NJ. To leave lasting condolences or photos, please use the links on this page.
