Obituary of Francis A Mihm

Please share a memory of Francis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Francis Mihm, a longtime resident of Lindenwold, New Jersey, died at home on Wednesday November 20, 2019.  Mihm was born on October 2, 1932, in the depths of the Great Depression. He was put up for adoption that same year, and not long afterward joined the family of William J. Mihm and Margaret Anderson as a foster child.

The Mihm family, who lived in Audubon, New Jersey, eventually adopted Francis.  It was a large family – five boys in all – and Francis spent his childhood attending Catholic school with his other brothers as well as working part-time jobs to help the family make ends meet.

Fran eventually became an apprentice machinist, working first at Laurel Valley Manufacturing in Lindenwold with his older brother, William Mihm, who had founded the company.  After becoming a master machinist, Fran went to work at Garvey Corporation, manufacturer of conveyor belts and other production equipment.  He retired from Garvey at age 65.

In his leisure time, Fran loved to add to his collection of antique machine tools.   He was also a talented gardener, growing tomatoes in his backyard.  He always planted far more than he could possibly eat, sharing the bounty with his neighbors.  He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Stella Maris Council.

Finally, it must be noted that Fran was a long-suffering fan of the Philadelphia Eagles.  He had almost given up hope for his team when the Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018 -- a victory he was privileged to witness before he passed.

Fran is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Carol Mihm, of Ridley Park, Pennsylvania; and his nephew, Stephen Mihm, of Watkinsville, Georgia.  Cremation and interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knights of Columbus Stella Maris Council 324 Breakwater Rd., Erma, NJ. Arrangements under the direction of DANKS-HINSKI FUNERAL HOME, LINDENWOLD, NJ.
